Some projects come with generous access and open space. This one did not.

Cartwright Communications asked us to install a small system on their city-centre roof in the Lace Market heritage area of Nottingham. A beautiful location, but not the easiest spot to reach. Tight access. A tall roof. A job that needed a steady hand and a bit of patience.
Designing around the constraints
On a constrained site the design work happens before anyone touches a panel. Access routes, lifting strategy, where materials can be staged, how the crew gets on and off the roof safely, and what the conservation context will and will not tolerate. Get those wrong and the programme slips regardless of how good the electrical design is.
Even so, the system went in on time and on budget.
What a 10 kW system delivers
- Around 42% of the building's energy now comes from the sun
- Annual savings that build to roughly £30,000 over the period
- A reduction of two tonnes of carbon each year
- An annual carbon benefit equal to planting around 90 trees
Small system. Steady impact. Heritage buildings can take part in sensible energy planning when the design and access work is handled carefully.
If your building has awkward access or a few quirks of its own, it may still have more to offer than you think.
