Why feasibility matters more than most people expect

← Back to Blog

One of the most overlooked parts of a commercial solar project happens before any panels arrive on site. The feasibility study.

This is where the business case is tested properly. Not in theory, but in practice: for your roof, your energy profile, and how your site operates day to day.

What a proper feasibility study tests

  • Structural capacity of the roof, and its remaining service life
  • Half-hourly consumption data rather than an annual total
  • Realistic self-consumption, modelled against your actual demand curve
  • Shading, orientation and irradiance for the specific site
  • Grid capacity and the likely position of the network operator
  • Safe access for installation and for the next twenty-five years of maintenance

We have seen projects struggle because early assumptions were rushed. We have also seen others succeed because the right questions were asked before any commitments were made.

A robust feasibility study is not about ticking boxes. It is about giving decision-makers confidence that the numbers will behave as expected, year after year.

The uncomfortable part

Occasionally feasibility says no. A roof needs replacing first, the demand profile does not fit, or grid constraints make the timing wrong. We would rather tell you that at the feasibility stage than have you find out in year three.

Wondering what your own roof could support? We will model it against your half-hourly data and tell you straight.
